Ahhhh the 80's. The decade that I grew up in and where I had my craziest times as a young adult. Also a terrific time for movies. Or was it. Got into an argument recently about movies from the 80's. I think "The Terminator" is one of the greatest movies of all times. But if I saw it today for the first time, would I still think that?
Here's an example. I was living in Los Angeles in 1983 and had just graduated high school. The movie, "Fast Times At Ridgemont High" was all the rage. Somehow I missed it. So, as a 42 year old, I recently watched that movie.
It sucked.
But I will never forget all my friends and pretty much the entire world thinking this was THE movie to beat all movies. And I'm pretty sure I would have agreed, had I seen it in 1983!
Another example. I also missed out the first time around for the movie, "Ferris Bueller's Day Off". Saw that as a grown up. LAME-O!!
So, who else is an 80's freak who hasn't seen a movie that was the "don't miss" movie of that time? Do me a favor and watch it and let me know if I am just growing into my father, or if I'm onto something!
